Shani began his non-profit fundraising career in 2011 with HomeFundraising UK leading rotating multicultural teams on Door2Door fundraising campaigns across the entire Northeast of Scotland on behalf of charities including Oxfam, Marie Curie Cancer Care, and Anthony Nolan. During his time there, he won several personal and team awards including ‘Charity Champions’ for Oxfam.
In 2013, he joined ActionAid as a High-Value Fundraiser where he drove the launch of its ‘Community Sponsorship’ local fundraising initiative; a ‘first-of-its-kind’ attempt by an international charity to raise unrestricted funds locally in Nigeria. His fundraising experience also extends into corporate and institutional fundraising where he was part of the ActionAid fundraising team that raised over $5,000,000 in furtherance of its human rights and anti-poverty programs.
In 2016, he joined the Nigerian Economic Summit Group as donor relations and fundraising manager, and in 2020 joined the Association for Research on Civil Society in Africa (AROCSA) as Programs Director. In 2021, he secured an additional $500,000 in funding from Ford Foundation to implement the organizations’ programs up to 2024.
